EHA Partner Fellowship Program

Sharing knowledge and expertise and creating strong, dynamic networks for hematology is the EHA mission. One of EHA's goals is to promote the career development of young scientists involved in basic, clinical and experimental research in hematology in new association and EU candidate countries.
Therefore a Partner Fellowship Program has been developed.

EHA Partner Fellowship Program 2008

Goals

  • To set up a partner fellowship program with centers of excellence in Western Europe in order to support the career development of young scientists involved in basic and clinical research in hematology in new accession and EU candidate countries
  • To build up and create inter-institutional networks of collaboration between Hematology Institutes in Western European focusing on research and clinical hematology and similar Institutes in new accession and EU candidate countries

Eligibility

  • Applicants should hold an MD and/or PhD or equivalent and be engaged in clinical and/or biological research in hematology
  • Applicants must reside in one of the following countries: Bulgaria, Greek Cyprus, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania and Turkey
  • Applicants must have graduated since 1990
  • Applicants must be, or become, member of EHA when submitting their application

Funding

  • Funding for a maximum of 3 years of € 35.000 per year
  • The Western European host institute will receive € 10.000 per year to cover administrative and other costs
  • Recipient will receive a salary of € 25.000 per year which will be paid through the home institute
  • Home and Host Institutes
  • Home and host institutes must be research and/or clinical hematology centers and should provide Letters of Intent to establish collaboration between both institutes and facilitate exchange of fellows
  • The Head of the applicant’s department/institute will provide a Recommendation Letter for the Applicant
  • The Head of the applicant’s department/institute will after signing the partnership program contract, respond to the EHA on research development, project implementation and budgeting
  • The Host institute must provide all facilities for the applicant’s project.
  • A Letter of Agreement describing mutual collaboration and responsibility for successful performance of the research project must be signed by Home and Host institutes and the successful applicant
  • The successful applicant must return to work in the home institute for at least one year after the training period or otherwise refund the entire financial support as penalty

Full application: copies of the following documents to: fellowships.grants@ehaweb.org

  1. The scientific proposal – 4-6 pages (double spaced) – and including:
    • description of background of proposed project
    • specific aims of project
    • plan of investigation
    • methods to be employed and any pilot data obtained
    • description how project will benefit collaboration and (long term) relationship home and host institute
    • relevant references
  2. Full details of the budget, including the consumables / supplies / equipment
  3. A biographical sketch (CV) of the applicant
  4. Specification of home Institution, laboratory and contact person/supervisor for the development of the project and description of the host Institution and laboratory where the project will be conducted
  5. Letter of agreement, describing mutual collaboration and responsibility for research project signed by contact person supervisor home institute, primary preceptor host institute and trainee
  6. Specification of any additional funding obtained by the Applicant

IMPORTANT NOTE 1:

All documents and the Partner Fellowship application form must be completed in English. Incomplete submissions will not be accepted and submissions from non-members will be returned to the sender.

Please keep a printed copy of all documents submitted for your records. The EHA Executive Office will confirm receipt of your application within 48 hours.

IMPORTANT NOTE 3:

The letter of agreement from Home and Host Institutes signed by the chair/head of department of both institutions must be sent by regular mail to: EHA Executive Office, to the attention of Dr. Ans Steuten, Westblaak 71, 3012 KE Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
