WORKSHOP LEUKEMIC AND CANCER STEM CELLS, APRIL 2009

ESH-EHA SCIENTIFIC WORKSHOP, LEUKEMIC AND CANCER STEM CELLS: Common and Distinct Features

April 3-5, 2009 Cannes-Mandelieu, France

Chairpersons: C. Chomienne (F), D. Bonnet (UK), P. Valent (AT), D. Louvard (F)

The identification of a CSC in most cancers has opened a novel topic in cancer research which is expected to provide insight in onco-genesis and open new hopes for improved survival and cure. In haematology, despite being the first tissue where LSC were identified, accumulating data has underscored the complexity of its isolation and prompts to be cautious in the identification of novel markers. LSC research solicits not less than 3 or platforms integrating hospital laboratories such as haematology laboratories and research platforms such as animal, genomic and cell sorting facilities.

Objectives: Researchers in the field have identified the need to address CSC research as a whole in local, national or international networks in order to work along common criteria.

The present workshop will aim at fostering LSC networks in European countries to serve as local reference and participate actively with non Europeans LSC networks to reach an international consensus on LSC.

Targeted audience: Researchers already in the field (or wishing to enter it), clinicians implicated in novel targeted therapies, students and biologists of hematology laboratories.
